AWS Ocean Energy Comments on UK energy

Commenting on the Government's publication today (Wednesday 23rd May 2007) of its White Paper on UK energy, Simon Grey, Chief Executive of Highlands based on AWS Ocean Energy, developers of the Archimedes wave energy device, said,

"It's very much a case of a step in the right direction for wave and tidal energy."

The new bandings for Renewable Obligations Certificate will certainly drive more investment towards wave energy and this, coupled with the proposed measures to streamline planning and improve access as a world leader in marine renewables and reap the associated economic and environmental benefits for the country.

Marine renewables, both wave and tidal, are at an exciting stage of their development. The White Paper recognises this and puts forward a series of innovative, practical measures that will establish the market framework to enable wave energy play its vital role in securing the UK's electricity supplies.
