The studentships are open to students studying at an MSc/MEng level (2008/2009) for courses relating to renewable energy, ocean engineering and naval architecture.
AWS Ocean Energy, developers of the Archimedes WaveswingTM wave energy device, is offering a £2,000 MSc dissertation studentship for 2009. This will be awarded on a competitive basis and be linked to a project which will be completed working in collaboration with AWS Ltd (http://www.awsocean.com).
The installation, maintenance and station-keeping of wave energy convertors (WEC) is a key determinant of the financial viability of the sector. AWS would like to sponsor a student dissertation project examining aspects of marine operations:
Possible project themes include:
• anchoring and mooring;
• deployment;
• maintenance and access.
• weather downtime and intervention strategies
Projects could include the use of Orcaflex mooring software and University wave tank facilities. More information will be posted in the New Year. In the meantime if you have any queries or would like to register an interest, please email Ben Yeats (ben.yeats@awsocean.com)
