Today AWS Ocean took another major step forward in the development of the Waveswing technology with the signing of a turnkey contract with Malin Group the build of a half-scale prototype machine. The work will be carried out at Malin’s facility in Renfrew, near Glasgow and is scheduled to be completed in an ambitious 9 months. The contract was awarded after a competitive tender process which saw Malin emerge as the clear winner. “We are really excited to have reached agreement with Malin for the build of our Waveswing prototype”, said Jude Monson AWS Ocean’s commercial director. “Malin bring a wealth of experience and capability in multi-disciplinary and complex projects and we have every confidence that they will make our project a real success.” The work is being carried out as part of a contract which AWS has with Wave Energy Scotland under the novel wave energy converter programme. The prototype Waveswing will be deployed at the European Marine Energy Centre’s test site in Orkney later in 2020.
