Progress continues apace with the construction of AWS Ocean Energy’s partial-scale Waveswing prototype wave energy generator. This month saw all of the major fabrications completed at Malin Group’s workshops in Glasgow. “It is really exciting to have reached this stage” said Simon Grey, AWS Chief Executive. “Having lived with the development of the technology over the years, seeing the CAD models turn into real bits of steel that you can see and feel is a huge step forward.” The next stage in the build process will be to commission all of the internal systems before installing them within the assembled machine. AWS expects to deploy the prototype for testing at the European Marine Energy Centre in the early summer of 2021. The project is being carried out under contract to Wave Energy Scotland under the novel wave energy converter programme.
